A Letter Received From
"The International Association for Integration, Dignity and Economic
Advancement"
September 23, 1997
H. I. M. Farah Pahlavi:
We greatly appreciate all the work you have done with regard to leprosy throughout your life. "Quest for Dignity." A Victory Over Leprosy/Hansen's Disease, is a multi-media exhibit being launched at the United Nations on October 30. This Exhtbit is an unprecedented opportunity to present the modern day realities of leprosy, also known as Hansen's Disease, to thousands of individuals from around the world, including government leaders, the general public and members of the international press. While the Exhibit documents the tremendous medical achievements of the last ten years that have resulted in more than eight million individuals being cured, it also focuses on the social injustices that all too often continue to accompany a diagnosis of leprosy.
An extremely important component of the exhibit is the participation of individuals personally affected by the disease from around the world, both in the planning process and through their presence at the exhibit. Whether they are community leaders or someone just beginning to speak out about the sisease, these individuals well ariticulate how it is society's reaction, rather than the disease itself, that continues to prevent millions of people from leading rewarding lives with dignity.
We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us for the Opening Reception on the evening of October 30, 1997 and assist in our efforts to end the prejudice and discrimination associated with this disease that have no place in modern society.
With all best wishes,
Sincerely,
Soraya Emami, UN Leprosy Exhibit Advisor
Anwei Skines Law, Exhibit Coordinator.
