Address by Her Majesty Empress Farah Pahlavi at:
 Innocence in Danger Gala

   Berlin, April 26, 2008

Mrs. Sellier,
Countess Isa von Hardenberg,
Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am delighted to be here with you tonight. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Eva Louise Köhler, Mrs. Homeyra Sellier, the founder of Innocence in Danger, Countess von Hardenberg and the Board of Directors for inviting me to join this important gathering.

I am happy to be back in Berlin, and even happier to be able to support a momentous cause together with you tonight. It is truly wonderful to see that so many of you have answered Innocence in Danger’s call. Your very presence here serves as a reminder that good will prevail, despite all the evils that surround us. Based on the United Nations findings, adults subject 12 million children to physical and psychological violence each year. Millions of innocent beings are robbed of their childhood through beatings, sexual harassment, social injustice, poverty and humiliation. The invaluable work of this organization cannot be praised enough. Founded in 1999, the foundation now has an active presence in 29 countries around the world.

Thanks to the energetic support of numerous partners, Innocence in Danger has succeeded in placing the issue of child pornography on the Internet directly in the public eye. In its latest report, Interpol notes that child trafficking yields a profit of billions of dollars each year. The number of pedophiliac sites grows by thousands annually. Shocking numbers, which cannot be ignored by the international community, and an unfortunate epidemic that requires immediate attention.

As someone who was involved in the creation of different organizations for the welfare of children in Iran, as a mother and a grandmother, I know how critical it is for children to experience a free, healthy and happy childhood. Children are curious by nature, and others easily prey on their naivety. Children are the future of our society, and our hope for generations to come. They will create the world of tomorrow and determine its political, economic, cultural and social outcome. We have the power to influence what this world should be, and I am convinced that you will agree that we all hope for a peaceful and safe world. It is most encouraging to learn that the foundation places a great deal of emphasis on prevention of child abuse. From my perspective rehabilitation and therapy for the victims are essential but prevention is even more important.

Therefore, I would like to ask you tonight: Please continue your crucial commitment to Innocence in Danger, and help protect children from mistreatment everywhere and always.

Thank you very much.

INNOCENCE IN DANGER MISSION

An international, non-profit association created by a group of citizens on 15 April 1999, at the initiative of the UNESCO Director- General, Federico Mayor,
and under the presidency of Ms Homeyra Sellier, in response to the recommendations of the UNESCO expert meeting convened in January 1999 on
Sexual Abuse of Children, Child Pornography and Pedophilia on the Internet, in order to pursue the objectives of the Action Plan adopted by the experts to
combat sexual abuse of children.

Innocence in Danger operates in 29 countries throughout the world, with partners who share the same objectives. IID thus brings together
militants, Internet specialists, jurists, political decision-makers, businessmen, media and national action groups to sensitize world
opinion on the increasing problems of paedo-criminality.

Innocence in Danger represents an action force to sensitize and catalyze, educate and inform governmental and non-governmental bodies,
European and international intergovernmental bodies, business enterprises, and the general public - schools, community associations,
the youth. Aside from those persons explicitly listed on our website as officials of the bureaux of Innocence in Danger associations in
France, Switzerland, Germany, USA and Canada, no one has the right to make any declaration in the name of Innocence in Danger, nor to
organize any manifestation of whatever nature under penalty of the law.

Since 15 April 2000, on which date Innocence in Danger was formalized and operated independently of any other organization, its choice of
partners and projects to support or put into action emanate solely from the authority of the national Innocence in Danger associations
under the control of Innocence in Danger Foundation.

IID originated in January 1999 through the United Nations’ UNESCO project in order to bring public attention to the plight of children
who had been victims of trafficking and sexual abuse. In April 2000, IID was established as an independent non-profit
organization under the guidance of our international president and founder, Homeyra Sellier. Since then, IID has expanded its
initiatives throughout Europe, and now operates in more than 29 countries. More recently, under the leadership of our U. S. Director,
Rory J. Cutaia, IID has begun operations in the United States, offering education, advocacy and rehabilitation programs to affected
children and their families.
