The Museum says: HI
At the invitation of David McFadden, Chief
Curator of the Museum of Arts and Design, Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi attended the
grand opening of the new home of the museum at Columbus Circle in New York City
on September 23, 2008 as a guest of honor. Barbara Tober, Chairman of the
museum, David McFadden, and? Holly Hotchner, Director of the museum, welcomed
the Shahbanou in the museum lobby. After viewing the exhibition accompanied by
Mr. McFadden and Ms. Tober, Shahbanou proceeded to the Gala Dinner. At the
dinner, Ms. Tober spoke about the Shahbanou, and how much she had done to
encourage the village women of Iran, who had no idea that their craft and design
skills were highly valuable and important cultural and economic tools. Ms. Tober
also mentioned that the Shahbanou supported young Iranian artists through her
personal endeavors, and was a driving force behind a number of specialized art
museums and other projects to preserve and publicize ancient and traditional art
and architecture in Iran.
